With Italy, Slovenia, Canada, France, Iran and Poland all clinching their berths in the second round on Saturday. There are still 10 spots left in the second round to be played for. We will now go over the scenarios for clinching second round berths on Sunday, September 16th for the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championships.
Pool A
Italy (3-0, 9 points) and Slovenia (3-0, 8 points) have already clinched their berths in the second round.
Belgium (1-2, 4 points)
- Will clinch a berth with a WIN over Japan in <5 SETS (Belgium reaches 2 wins and 7 points, Japan can only max out at 2 wins and 6 points)
Dominican Republic will be eliminated with a loss to Italy.
Pool B
Canada (3-0, 9 points) and France (2-1, 7 points) have already clinched their berths in the second round.
Netherlands (2-1, 6 points)
- Will clinch if China vs. Egypt GOES 5 SETS (Netherlands already at 6 points, maximum for either team if it goes 5 sets is 5 points)
- OR TWO SET WINS (gaining 1 point from the match)
Loser of China vs. Egypt match is eliminated
Pool C
USA (3-0, 7 points)
- Will clinch with a WIN vs. Cameroon
- OR Australia LOSS vs. Serbia
Serbia (2-1, 7 points)
- Will clinch with a WIN vs. Australia
- OR Cameroon LOSS vs. USA
Pool D
Poland (3-0, 9 points) and Iran (3-0, 9 points) have already clinched their berths in the second round.
Bulgaria (2-1, 6 points)
- Will clinch with TWO SET WINS vs. Cuba
Finland (1-2, 3 points)
- Will clinch with a WIN vs. Puerto Rico
- AND Bulgaria TWO SET WINS vs. Cuba
Puerto Rico and Cuba will both be eliminated with a loss in their matches on Sunday.
