The United States grabbed the Pan American Cup title, defeating the Dominican Republic in the final on Sunday.
As the team won its fifth Pan Am Cup gold, a pair of Team USA members garnered mention on the tournament’s All-Star Team. Setter Micha Hancock earned a trio of awards, nabbing MVP honors as well as best setter and best server accolades. Hancock served up a tournament-best 31 aces, including 11 against Venezuela, June 17.
Opposite Liz McMahon also earned all-tournament team mention. McMahon racked up 27 points against Puerto Rico, marking the second highest individual output of the tournament.
Cuba’s Heidy Casanova, who set a tournament record with 41 points against Canada in the fifth place match, was the best scorer at the event with 163 points. Casanova also tallied the second highest individual match effort with 27 points against Chile.
Peru’s Miriam Patino was the best receiver of the tournament, while the Dominican Republic’s Brenda Castillo was named best digger.
Rounding out the all-tournament honorees were the Dominican Republic’s Bethania de La Cruz, Cuba’s Regla Rainerys Gracia, Trinidad & Tobago’s Sinead Jack, Argentina’s Natalia Aispurua and Patino, Peru’s libero.
Aispurua was the top blocker of the tournament with 31 stuffs, while Jack was second with 27 rejections. Gracia scored 95 points overall, including 16 aces.
