Serbian outside hitter Milan Katic has transferred to PGE Skra Belchatow for the 2017/2018 season, signing a three year contract to stay in the PlusLiga, the top league in Poland. The 23 year old spent last season in Poland playing for Bydgoszcz for a team that finished 15th out of the 16 teams in the league. However, his new club Belchatow finished the 2016/2017 regular season in third place and eventually lost in the finals to Kedzierzyn-Kozle.

The 6’8” (202 cm) outside hitter has been a member of the Serbian national team since 2014 and played for the squad that won the 2016 FIVB World League title. In the 2017 version of the yearly World League, Katic totaled 18 points on 13 kills, 4 blocks and 1 ace for a Serbian team that reached the final round in Brazil, but was eliminated after losing to the United States and France losing back to back matches. Katic’s best performance came in a five set loss to Bulgaria when he collected 9 kills.

In addition, Katic helped lead the Serbian youth team to a gold medal at 2011 World Championships, winning a five set match over Spain in the finals of the tournament that was held in Argentina.

Katic will represent his home country at the 2017 European Volleyball Championships. An expanded role might be in his future after Marko Ivovic suffered an injury that will keep him out of the tournament.
