Modena Without Bosetti, Calloni, and Now Eric for Italian Playoffs

The hits keep coming for the women of Modena, who suffered another huge injury blow this week when Italian outside hitter Caterinea Bosetti suffered a left knee ligament injury that required surgery. She suffered the injury on Saturday’s game in Cremona, and underwent testing that pushed her into immediate knee surgery.

The transfer of Sladjana Eric, captain of Vizura Ruma, to A1 side Modena has fallen through on the eve of the Italian Championship playoffs. This leaves Modena with an ongoing gap at middle blocker.

Modena jettisoned American Symone Abbott in February, sending her home to the United States after a short stint with the club in anticipation of the addition of Eric to their roster. The 34-year old Eric is a Serbian, and having both players on the roster would put them over the league limit for foreign players in the league.

Modena then is still struggling to replace Rafaella Calloni, who was injured earlier in February and will have to undergo reconstructive knee surgery after tearing her ACL.

The team now faces a huge uphill battle after finishing 6th in the regular season table. They’ll face off against Imoco Volley Conegliano, who has had their own injury troubles this year with the loss of Megan Easy and more recently Robin de Kruijf to a shoulder injury.

The two teams will play a best-of-3 series, with two games in Villorba, home of Conegliano, starting on Sunday, March 18th.
