The third round of the European women’s qualifier for the 2018 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championships has concluded, with the Netherlands and Bulgaria securing their place at the championships.
The Netherlands ended the competition with a clean sweep of all opponents with a 5-0 record after taking down Bulgaria for the top honor, while Bulgaria finished with a 4-1 record. The Dutch finished the tournament with a sweep over the Bulgarians 3-0, (25-21, 25-17, 25-23). The sweep was the fifth for the Dutch over the course of the competition.
“We won every match with 3-0 and it was a great week for us. We worked extremely hard this summer with the team and the staff and it paid off,” said Dutch head coach Jamie Morrison.
Robin De Kruijf was the top scorer in the match with 13 points on eight kills and five blocks. Yvon Belien also added another 10 points.
The Belgium squad committed 22 errors in the match, with fed into their overall loss against the Dutch. Elitsa Vasileva posted 13 points including 11 kills and two blocks.
Up next for the Dutch is the European Championships that will begin on September 22 and run through October 1 in Azerbaijan and Georgia.
