Representing the United States at the Vienna World Championships this week are #3 seeded and #1 World Ranked Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena.
Looking into the World Championships, Lucena expressed that Austria was the most exciting place to play beach volleyball, despite not thinking that it was a very popular place for the sport.
So far this season, the pair has placed in the top-ten of every World Tour event they have entered. At the season opener in Fort Lauderdale, the duo finished in third place then followed that up with a first place finish in Moscow. At their second five-star event of the season, the team placed ninth in Porec then first in Gstaad the following week.
The pair stepped out of the World Tour to compete in the Long Beach President’s Cup, where they battled against other American’s then against Canada’s Sam Pedlow/Sam Schachter in the finals for the title in straight sets.
In Olsztyn, the final World Tour event before the World Championships, Dalhausser/Lucena finished in fourth place.
The pair has been a top team in the world and has proven to be the top American beach squad on the men’s side this season.
The competition will begin on July 28 with pool play then conclude on August 6 with the men’s finals.
