The New Jersey Institute of Technology men’s volleyball team extended its program-best win streak to six matches with a road sweep of Charleston Saturday. The Highlanders picked up their 13th win of the year, the program’s highest total since 2008, with the 27-25, 25-18, 25-20 win.
NJIT hit .429 on the match, including an .810 percentage with an errorless effort in Set 3 (17-0-21). Senior outside hitter Jabarry Goodridge led all hitters with 12 kills, while hitting at a .526 clip and adding three aces. Redshirt senior middle Luke Robbe and redshirt junior opposite Raymond Kowalski added nine kills apiece. Robbe went 9-for-9 in the match for a perfect 1.000 percentage, while Kowalski pulled up a match-high 11 digs.
On the Charleston side, junior outside Ryan Santos managed 10 kills and two aces, while sophomore opposite Byron Hurd added nine putaways.
After taking a 23-20 lead in Set 1, NJIT had to overcome a Charleston rally and a 24-23 deficit of its own to nab the 27-25 win. Three kills and a Bearcat miscue gave the Highlanders four of the final five points in the victory.
The teams played to a 14-14 tie midway through Set 2, before NJIT took control with a set-ending 11-4 run. Two aces and three Bearcat miscues clinched the stanza.
NJIT jumped ahead 18-11 in Set 3 with help from a 4-0 run. The Bearcats were able to cut the margin to four six times, last at 24-20, but a kill by freshman middle Luke Allmond sealed the match.

The NJIT men’s volleyball team won its sixth straight, sweeping the regular season series from Charleston (WV), 3-0, Saturday afternoon in EIVA Conference action at Wehrle Arena.
NJIT, which has won the last eight-out-of-nine matches this season, improves to 13-7 on the season, 6-3 in EIVA while Charleston drops to 10-11 overall, 0-9 in the EIVA.
The Highlanders six straight wins ties NJIT’s longest win streak, which was set last season (2016), when NJIT won six straight (March 8 to April 1). The 13 wins for NJIT matches the highest win total for the Highlanders since 2008, when the Highlanders advanced to the EIVA semifinals.
The Highlanders won in straight sets Saturday – 27-25, 25-18 and 25-20.
The match-leader on the day was NJIT’s senior Jabarry Goodridge with 12 kills, notching a .526 hitting percentage with just two errors to go along with three service aces. NJIT’s Luke Robbe and Raymond Kowalski each notched nine kills, as middle Robbe was a perfect 1.000 in the match with nine kills on nine attempts. Freshman Luke Allmond recorded a .636 hitting percentage, with eight kills on 11 swings and one error while Kowalski combined for a match-best 11 digs. Highlander setter Cameron Tait piled up 35 assists in the win.
Charleston (WV) Ryan Santos was the Golden Eagles leader with 10 kills followed by Byron Hurd with nine kills. Setter Anthony Rivera combined for a team-best 25 assists and added four digs for the home team. Hurd notched a team-high seven digs.
NJIT will break and return to action on March 31 when the Highlanders visit Saint Francis U at 7pm followed by Penn State on April 1 at 7pm. In the first meeting against the Red Flash, the Highlanders took the five set tilt while against the Nittany Lions, who were ranked #14 at the time, topped the Highlanders, 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Charleston kept the score close through the first set. NJIT carried a 3-point lead at 23-20, but Charleston capitalized on Highlander errors to stay alive. UC took the 24-23 lead after another error by NJIT, but the Highlanders would take the final two points of the set to win 27-25.
– NJIT pulled ahead and maintained their lead throughout the second set. A kill by Brian Cranston cut the Highlander lead to one point, but NJIT was able to pull away and take the second set 25-18.
-During the third set the Highlanders pulled away leading 18-13 midway through the match, but Charleston stayed alive getting within 4 points of the Highlanders. A kill by Luke Allmond sealed the deal for NJIT giving them the 25-20 set victory and the 3-0 match victory against Charleston.

-Charleston will travel to Bluefield College on Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. match.
