Ohio State senior Christy Blough has been named the 2017 Elite 90 Award winner for men’s volleyball.
The honor is given annually to the athlete at each of the NCAA’s 90 sponsored championship final sites who has the highest GPA. Ties are broken by the number of credit hours completed, and to be considered, athletes must be sophomores or above who have competed in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and a designated member of the squad size at the championship.
In short, Blough has the highest GPA among all players on the 6 teams invited to the NCAA Championship tournament in Columbus, Ohio this week: Ohio State, Long Beach State, BYU, Barton, Penn State, and Hawaii.
Blough carries a 3.978 GPA and will attend medical school after graduating from Ohio State on Sunday.
The Buckeyes’ starting setter was named an AVCA Second-Team All-American for the second straight year as well this week. He ranks 6th nationally and leads the MIVA with 10.38 assists/set.
