After extending Benjamin Toniutti‘s and Pawel Zatorski’s contracts to the end of the 2019 season, Zaksa has announced in its official website that it has also reached an extension agreement with team middle blocker and Polish national teamer Mateusz Bieniek for a third season, thus keeping most of the team’s successful core intact through 2019.

The 6’11” Bieniek, who is only 23 years of age, is one of Poland’s most promising young stars. He debuted with the national team in 2015 in World League match against Russia, leading the team to an easy 3-0 win and being awarded match MVP honors. This year, although Poland’s squad is still without a coach, it is safe to say he will be a lock for the team that will travel to Japan for the 2018 FIVB Men’s World Championship.

In his still very young career, Bienike has already won a Polish Championship and Cup with Zaksa in 2016/17, and is well on his way to another title in 2018. With Poland’s national team, he participated at the Rio Olympic Games, and was bronze medalist of the 2015 World Cup.

Zaksa currently leads PlusLiga’s standings with a very dominant 18-1 record. It has also won its first three matches in CEV’s 2018 Champions League, which means it leads Pool E of the tournament ahead of Italy’s Diatec Trentino, Belgium’s Noliko Maaseik, and Turkey’s Arkas Izmir.
