Portland’s Shayla Hoeft Tabbed as WCC Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named its Volleyball Player of the Week for August 27, 2018. This is the first weekly honor of the 2018 season.

WEST COAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – SHAYLA HOEFT, JR., OH – PORTLAND

Junior middle blocker Shayla Hoeft helped lead the Pilots through an undefeated opening weekend at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Calif. The Pilot was named Tournament MVP after Portland clinched all three matches, including a sweep over CSU Bakersfield and Campbell, and a 3-1 victory over tournament host San Diego State. Hoeft recorded a total of 38 kills over the weekend, producing double digit numbers in each match. The Pilot averaged 3.8 kills on .453 attacking to go along with 1.0 blocks per set.

Hoeft, who transferred to Portland after an All-Mountain West season at Nevada, posted double-digit kills in each match, including 16 against SDSU. She notched 12 kills while hitting .545 against Bakersfield and added 10 putaways and three blocks while hitting .350 against Campbell. The Kihei, Hawaii, native downed 16 kills at a .464 clip with five blocks in the weekend finale.

Hoeft is the first Pilot to win a WCC weekly honor since Hannah Troutman in 2016.
