Sarmayeh Bank, Toyoda Gosei Grab Spots in Asian Men’s Club Finals

SMM 2017 ASIAN MEN’S CLUB VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Semifinals

Toyoda Gosei Trefuerza def. Altay 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-22)

Sarmayeh Bank Tehran def. Al Arabi 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-19)

 

Defending champions Sarmayeh Bank Tehran will have a shot at another title after sweeping 2016 runner up Al Arabi in Wednesday’s semifinals. Sarmayeh will face Toyoda Gosei Trefuerza in Thursday’s finale.

 

Toyoda Gosei Trefuerza 3, Altay 0

Altay Volleyball Club outblocked Toyoda 7-5 and outserved them 8-4, but could not overcome a 24-points difference in kills, falling via sweep. Toyoda managed 49 kills in the match, including 31 by Igor Omrcen, while limiting Altay to just 25 putaways.

Omrcen added two blocks for a match-high 33 points. Hirotaka Kan added eight points, with seven kills and a block, while Shuzo Yamada added five points, including a team-best three aces.

Alexandr Stolnikov and Vitaliy Vorivodin added eight points apiece to pace Altay. Damir Akimov and Nodirkhan Kadirkhanov chipped in seven points apiece. Vorivodin managed a team-best six kills, while Akimov put up three blocks and Stolnikov managed three aces.

 

Sarmayeh Bank Tehran 3, Al Arabi 0

Sarmayeh Bank will defend its title after sweeping Al Arabi Sports Club in the semifinals.

The victors bested their foes in all statistical categories and had help from 29 miscues. Sarmayeh managed 34 kills (to 30), nine blocks (to seven) and three aces (to two).

Shahram Mahmoudi recorded a match-best 13 points, including 12 kills, to lead Sarmayeh. Eraghi Seyed Mousavi added 11 points, including eight kills and three blocks. Gharah Ebadipour followed with nine points, all on kills.

Gyorgy Grozer paced Al Arabi with 12 points, including 11 kills, while Hidalgo Oliva Salvador added 10 points, all on putaways.
