Turkish club Beylikduzu is building a roster full of former NCAA stars. After signing 2017 VolleyMob National Player of the year Kelly Hunter, it went ahead and announced in its official twitter page the signing of Simone Lee and Andrea Drews to its roster. Both players starred in NCAA ball for Penn State and Purdue University, respectively.

Lee is transferring out of Italy’s current champions Imoco Conegliano. She saw very little action in her pro debut season, as Conegliano’s stacked line-up was just too difficult to crack into.

In her senior year at Penn State, Lee captained the team to a 33-3 record all the way to a NCAA Final 4 loss to eventual national champions Nebraska. She was named MVP of the Big Ten Conference and was chosen as a first-team AVCA and VolleyMob All American. She finished the season with averages of 3.89 kills/set at .317 hitting, 2.30 digs/set, 0.58 blocks/set, and 0.20 aces/set. She amassed more than 1000 kills in her four year college career, and finished 3rd in VolleyMob National Player of the Year voting.

Drews, who on the other hand is transferring out of Italy’s Casalmaggiore, saw much more action in her team, but under-performed as an opposite, scoring only 2.8 points per set on 32.2% hitting. However, that is very much understandable, as she arrived on the team after a tumultuous stint in Legnano, in which she had to leave the team due to its financial difficulties. Drews, a 2015 AVCA All-America Second-Team and unanimous All-Big Ten selection out of Purdue University won a gold medal at this year’s VNL with Team USA.

Beylikduzu finished 10th out of 12 teams in the Turkish League with just an 8-14 record.
