Slovenia and Bulgaria will battle it out in an all-European semifinals today in Ljubljana. The winners of the match will go on to face Turkey in the finals.
This is certainly the most exciting match in the game so far, the Finals match most fans would have liked to see. In one side, we have Slovenia’s amazing Cinderella run. It’s worth remembering that Slovenia’s squad only lost two sets in group play, regardless of the fact that it ranks in last place in FIVB U23 rankings, with zero ranking points.
On the other, we have a Bulgarian team who gritted its way through the tournament, winning hard matches and guaranteeing its spot at the semifinals at the very last minute. It had to come from behind 3-0 against Cuba and beat Brazil 4-0 during group play, in addition to being gifted with an improbable Brazil loss to Cuba in the last day of competition.
