Spanish Roster Set for First European Championship Showing Since 2009

2017 CEV European Championship – Men

Spain is making its first appearance at the CEV European Championships since 2009. The Spaniards, which won the gold medal in 2007 but finished ninth in their last appearance, bring a roster of 14 players to this year’s event in Poland.

The lineup includes 13 players from the country’s World League Group 3 roster, which finished second with a 5-1 record.

Andres Villena led the Spaniards in the World League Group 3 finale with 13 points all on kills.

New to the side is opposite Augusto R. Colito, who played in the U19/U20 European Championships in 2014 and 2016 and the U18/U19 Championships in 2015.

Gone from the roster are Sergi Rene Giralt, Daniel Rocamora Blazquez, Gerard Osorio, Francisco Jose Irabarne Fernandez, Victor Rodiguez Perez. Perez and Fernandez were the youngest member of the World League squad at 18.

The oldest member of the Euro Championships team is Miguel Angel de Amo, who will turn 32 shortly after the tournament. The youngest is Colito.

Middle blockers: Alejandro Vigil Gonzalez, Borja Ruiz Mira, Jorge Valcarcel, Miquel Angel Fornes Jul

Liberos: Francisco J. Martinez, Daniel Ruiz Pasada
