The USA Women’s Volleyball Team enters the 2018 World Championships as both the defending Nations League winners and World Champions.
With the FIVB World Championships just over a month away, U.S. Women’s National team head coach Karch Kiraly announced a preliminary 22-woman roster on Thursday.
Sarah Wilhite (above), Rachael Adams, and Lauren Gibbemeyer each had 3 stuffs as the USA defense held Brazilian star Tandara Caixeta in check on Sunday in Brasilia.
Karsta Lowe, above, will return to Rio with Team USA in her first official matches since the 2016 Olympic Games.
Michelle Bartsch-Hackley scored 21 points after not starting until set three when Team USA came back from an 0-2 hole on Turkey.
Team USA had the best record in pool play but now faces the two nations they lost to in Serbia & Turkey in Pool B of the #VNL Final Six.
While Team USA had a very impressive 10-match win streak in the VNL, including wins over Final Six participants Brazil, China, and the Netherlands, it will face Turkey and Serbia next. Ironically, these are the only teams to defeat the Americans in the preliminary round
It was an all-around effort with seven players chipping in five or more points for the Americans, who got back on track after Tuesday’s loss with a dominating sweep of South Korea.
After circling the globe, the United States have made it back to the Western hemisphere, wrapping up the preliminary rounds of the Volleyball Nations League against No. 3 Serbia, which is holding out several starters, South Korea and host Argentina.
