UIC Adds Junior College Transfer Tatyana Ndekwe

Middle blocker Tatyana Ndekwe will continue her collegiate career at Illinois-Chicago after spending the 2017 season at Hutchinson Community College.

While no official announcement has been made available, UIC has added Ndekwe to its 2018 spring roster.

The Cache, Oklahoma, native was part of the Blue Dragon’s 27-14 team in 2017, averaging 1.92 kills per set, while hitting at a .404 clip and putting up 1.02 blocks per set. The 5-10 sophomore also served up 15 aces. She put down double-digit kills seven times, including a season-best 14 twice. Ndekwe hit .300 or better in 31 matches, including .500 or better in 18 matches.

The middle blocker put up five or more blocks in 16 matches, including a season-best 12 against Jefferson College on Oct. 13, rounding out a  double-double with 10 kills and a .692 hitting effort.

In conference play, Ndekwe notched 2.07 kills per set and hit .427, while adding 1.24 blocks per set as the team went 13-3.

The Lawton Christian High School alumna was named Jayhawk West Conference Player of the Week on Oct. 24 for her efforts against Dodge City, Colby and Pratt. Ndekwe hit at a .605 clip and averaged 3.11 kills and 1.22 blocks per set. Those efforts saw her notch 14 kills and a .571 hitting percentage at Dodge City.

In 2016, Ndekwe played a Cowley College, posting 1.91 kills and 0.62 blocks per set, while hitting at a .261 clip. She downed double-digit kills on six occasions, including a career-best 17 kills at Highland (KS) on Oct. 26. The middle hit .300 or better in 14 matches, including .500 or better in five contests. She also posted five or more blocks four times.
