USA CNT-China Team Wraps Tour With 4-1 Record

While playing against Chinese Volleyball League pro teams, the United States Collegiate National Team – China posted a 4-1 record, ending its trip with four straight victories.

The final two wins came on May 29 and 30 in the form of four-set victories over Beijing BAIC and Hebei.

On Tuesday, Team USA bested Beijing BAIC 25-23, 18-25, 25-21, 25-23 behind an 18 point effort by Becca Latham (16 kills, 2 blocks). Jenna Rosenthal and T’ara Ceasar also managed double-digit scoring efforts with 10 points apiece. Rosenthal turned in six kills, a team-best three aces and a block, while Ceasar chipped in seven kills, two blocks and an ace. Carlyle Nusbaum and Stephanie Samedy added eight points apiece.

In a 25-11, 25-20, 19-25, 25-19 win over Hebei, Latham again led the American charge, this time notching 16 points (14 kills, 2 blocks). Nusbaum (14), Taryn Kloth (11), Dana Rettke (10) and Samedy (8) followed. Nusbaum posted 10 kills, three blocks and an ace. Kloth added a team-best four aces and seven putaways, while Rettke tallied seven putdowns and three stuffs. Samedy led the team at the net with six turnaways.

“I thought in the last match we did a great job of starting out strong,” Ceasar said, who will enter her sophomore season at Georgia in the fall. “There was good play after good play, and that is all we look for.”

On the tour, the team also visited Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China.
