The #2 USA men’s national team is set to host #1 Brazil for two matches as part of the USAV Cup International. These contests will be played in Hoffman Estates, Illinois at the Sears Centre Arena on August 18 and 19.

In the 2016 Olympics, USA was one of two teams that beat host Brazil, with the other being Italy. However, Brazil would finish with a gold medal while USA finished with the bronze.

Among the USA players that are expected to compete are returning 2016 Olympians Matt Anderson, Max Holt, Micah Christenson, Taylor Sander, Thomas Jaeschke, and Erik Shoji.

Head coach John Speraw says he looks forward for these contests, “Our matchups with Brazil are always exciting. At that time of year, both teams should be playing some of their best volleyball heading into the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup. We also really enjoy playing at the Sears Centre Arena. The crowds there are great and make for an incredible atmosphere.”

The two teams played once at the Olympics, where the Americans won 3-1. Brazil got the last laugh though – after sneaking through pool play, they got hot and beat Argentina, Russia, and Italy to take gold in front of an over-capacity home crowd. The United States settled for bronze, beating Russia 3-2.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here.
