Vietnam, Indonesia Make Men’s Semis; Women’s Play Begins at SEA Games

Men’s Group B

Vietnam def. Timor-Leste 3-0 (25-8, 25-13, 25-11)

Indonesia def. Philippines 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 35-33, 25-21)

 

Indonesia claimed its spot in the SEA Games men’s semifinals by moving to 2-0 with a four-set win over the Philippines on Wednesday. Vietnam also is 2-0 in Group B an on to the semis after a sweep of Timor-Leste.

Indonesia and Vietnam will face off to close out preliminary group play on Thursday, while the Philippines will battle Timor-Leste on Friday.

 

Women’s Group A

Thailand def. Indonesia 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-10)

Defending champions Thailand downed Indonesia via sweep to kick off its stay at the 2017 SEA Games.

Ajcharaporn Kongyot scored a match-high 14 points, including nine kills and four blocks, to lead the way for the Thai side. Pimpichaya Kokram put down 10 kills, while Hattaya Bamrungsuk chipped in eight kills and two aces.

Santini Aprilia scored 14 points for Indonesia, including 11 kills.

Women’s Group B

Vietnam def. Malaysia 3-0 (25-17, 25-7, 25-11)

Four players scored in double figures as Vietnam demolished Malaysia in just 60 minutes on Wednesday.

Doen Thi Xuan led the way with 14 points, including eight kills, three blocks and three aces. Ha Ngoc Diem and Tan Thi Thanh Thuy also put down eight kills apiece.

Mei Cing Low scored 12 points for Malaysia.

The Vietnamese, which were SEA Games runnersup in 2015, crushed their foes on the block (12-1) and from the service line (8-3).
