Women’s Final 6 Scenarios for June 7th Matches

With the USA Women’s National Team clinching their berth for the Volleyball Nations League Finals in Nanjing, China with Italy going five sets, the number of teams that are able to mathematically make the Finals is down to nine. Below we will go through the clinching scenarios that are available for matches played on June 7th, the 12th match of the 15 to be played.

1st Place – USA (10-1, 31 points), Clinched Final 6 Berth

Right now just playing for seeding in the Final 6 and have a 1 win and 4 point advantage over Serbia in 2nd place. First or second in the preliminary round will be in Pool B for the Final 6.

2nd Place – Serbia (9-2, 27 points)

Serbia will play Netherlands on Thursday. A Serbia WIN in <5 SETS will nearly clinch their berth with 30 points. Italy would have to GO FIVE SETS or LOSE to have Serbia clinch as Italy can only reach 30 as their maximum. Italy can reach 10 wins, but must win their final four matches. Russia could only reach 29 points, and also have to win all four matches and have Serbia lose all four.

3rd Place – Brazil (9-2, 26 points)

Brazil will play Russia on Thursday. A Brazil WIN means that an Italy must win out, with Brazil losing three in a row. A Italy LOSS on Thursday with a Brazil WIN clinches a berth in the Final 6.

4th Place – Turkey (8-3, 25 points)

Turkey will play South Korea on Thursday. Turkey is 2 wins and 7 points ahead of Italy with 4 matches to play. An Italy LOSS IN <5 SETS and a Russia LOSS, with a Turkey WIN clinches a berth in the Final 6.

5th Place – Netherlands (8-3, 24 points)

Netherlands faces Serbia. Netherlands is 2 wins and 6 points ahead of Italy with 4 matches to play. Netherlands cannot clinch on Thursday

6th Place – China (6-5, 20 points), Clinched Final 6 Berth as Host

7th Place – Italy (6-5, 18 points)

Italy will play Dominican Republic on Thursday. Two wins behind Netherlands and Turkey, 6 and 7 points behind respectively. A win keeps them alive, while a loss nearly ends all hope of Final 6.

8th Place – Russia (6-5, 17 points)

Russia faces Brazil on Thursday. A LOSS IN <5 SETS will give Turkey and Netherlands a chance to eliminate them with WINS on Thursday in their matches.

9th Place – Poland (5-6, 14 points)

Poland meets Belgium on Thursday. A LOSS IN <5 SETS OR Netherlands AND Turkey WINS eliminates Poland.

10th Place – Japan (5-6, 14 points)

Japan meets Thailand on Thursday. A LOSS IN <5 SETS OR Netherlands AND Turkey WINS eliminates Japan.

11th Place – South Korea (5-6, 14 points)

South Korea meets Turkey on Thursday. A LOSS IN <5 SETS OR Netherlands AND Turkey WINS eliminates South Korea.

Argentina, Belgium, Dominican Republic, Germany and Thailand have all be eliminated from Final 6 contention.
