Ohio State has been dominant so far this season and on Friday remained undefeated and continued a 29 consecutive winning streak with a 3-0 sweep of St. Francis (PA). The Buckeyes have won 87 out of 105 sets during this winning stretch. Saint Francis goes into their next match with a 3-3 record.

Buckeye Miles Johnson lead the team with 11 kills and 4 block assists while Blake Leeson contributed 8 out of the total 11 blocks for the Buckeyes. Maxime Hervoir was a total offensive weapon with 8 kills on 12 errorless attempts with .667 hitting percentage.

The Saint Francis Red Flash had a .154 hitting percentage during the match and Jeff Hogan lead the team with 13 kills. Setter Daniel Ford totaled 28 assists and libero Gabe Woffindin had 7 total digs.

The Buckeyes will play again on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 against #15 Penn State at the St. John Arena at 7 p.m.

LORETTO, Pa. – The train continued to chug along Friday night as the top-ranked Ohio State University men’s volleyball team (6-0) notched a 25-23, 25-18, 25-18 triumph at Saint Francis University (3-3), extending the OSU winning streak to 29 straight victories. The Buckeyes recorded their 30th win in 31 all-time meetings with the Red Flash.

Miles Johnson paced the squad with 13 points (11 kills, four block assists) while Maxime Hervoir proved to be the Buckeyes most effective offensive weapon by blasting eight kills on a dozen errorless attempts for a .667 hitting percentage. Blake Leeson was pivotal in the OSU win as well, getting in on eight of 11 Buckeye blocks helping to limit the Red Flash to a .154 attacking efficiency. Gabriel Domecus also played a large role in the defensive dominance, averaging four digs per set.

Set 1: Back-and-forth it went in the opening stage, resulting in 15 tied scores and a knotted tally as late as 22-all when head coach Pete Hanson burned a timeout. From there, Leeson registered a kill and paired with Hervoir for a block to make it 24-22. After a Saint Francis kill, Nicolas Szerszen terminated to close the door, 25-23.

Set 2: The victory remained in balance at 18-15 when Ohio State snagged six straight to earn set-point at 24-15. Saint Francis captured the next three rallies before a Lesson kill put an end to the comeback at 25-18.

Set 3 Ohio State started to pile it on in the third, breaking up a 7-7 stalemate with six points in a row to build 13-7 unrelinquishable upper hand. The Buckeyes swung .560 for the frame, bouncing 15 kills on 25 attempts with a lone attacking blunder. Domecus flanked the offensive explosion with a half dozen digs to lead the defensive effort as OSU notched another 25-18 ledger.

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men’s volleyball team hung with No.1 Ohio State in their home opener on Friday night at DeGol Arena, but the Buckeyes prevailed, 3-0. The Flash fell, 25-23, 25-18 and 25-18.

With the loss Saint Francis falls to 3-3 on the season, while Ohio State improves to 6-0.

Jeff Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) led the Flash with 13 kills and hit .226 in the match. Daniel Ford (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) dished out 28 assists, while Gabe Woffindin (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) chipped in with seven digs. Miles Johnson paced Ohio State with 11 kills.

After a back-and-fourth opening set, the Red Flash rattled off three unanswered points to take a 8-5 lead. Saint Francis would extend its lead to 12-9 after an Ohio State service error, but the Red Flash lead was short lived as the Buckeyes went on a 3-0 run to tie the set at 12-12. The rest of the set would remain close but OSU closed out the set on a 3-1 run to win 25-23. Stephen Braswell (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) paced Saint Francis with four kills. The Red Flash held the Buckeyes to a .185 clip in the set.

The Buckeyes would use a 5-0 run to break a 5-5 tie to take a 10-5 lead in the second set. A Braswell kill would pull SFU within three at 13-10. Ohio State would extend its lead to 21-15 and would cruise to a 25-18 win.

Saint Francis would jump out to a 7-6 lead in the third set, but the Buckeyes answered with a 7-0 run to take a commanding 13-7 lead. A Hogan kill would cut the Ohio State deficit to four at 20-16, but OSU kept the pressure on and would take the set 25-18.

Saint Francis returns to action tomorrow night at DeGol Arena when the Red Flash takes on the Lewis Flyers at 7 p.m. Tomorrow’s match will be broadcasted on NEC Front Row.
