Russia Moves Into Tie for Top Spot in CEV Rankings

Now that the European men’s championship has been decided, the latest round of the CEV rankings has been release, reflecting those results.

Ranking points include the last two editions of the European Championships combined with the current year’s CEV European League, FIVB World League and FIVB World Championship tournaments.

Because of the cumulative nature of the ranking points, there wasn’t too much movement in the upper ranks.

Russia, which won the Euro Championship in a five-set thriller over Germany on Sunday, moved up one spot into a tie for first place with France. Bronze medalist Serbia, which edged Belgium in five sets for the final podium spot, remained in the third position in the rankings.

The runnerup finish left the Germans in eighth, while Belgium, which finished fourth at Euros, remained in fourth in the CEV rankings.

Poland moved up a spot to fourth after finishing 10th at Euros, while Italy dropped from fourth to fifth after finishing fifth.

Big movers in the rankings were the Czech Republic which moved up two spots to 11th, Greece, which jumped three spot to 19th and Sweden, which moved up five spots to 19th.
