Radostin Stoychev had a year to forget at Azimut Modena last season. While the team finished 3rd place in the regular season of the Italian SuperLega, got to the semifinals of the playoffs, and qualified for the Champions League, the Bulgarian coach faced a mutiny from some of his biggest stars. Max Holt, Bruno and Earvin N’Gapeth all publicly voiced their negative opinions about the coach. Bruno and N’Gapeth left the club, while Holt said he would stay of they hired a new coach.
Catia Pedrini, Modena’s president, fired Stoychev and the vice president resigned. Stoychev cannot coach for the time-being due to a legal dispute involving his contract and termination with Modena. KPS Stocznia Szczecin of Poland still saw a place for the fired coach in their plans to improve on their 13th place finish in the PlusLiga last season.
Rumors started to surface that Szczecin was looking to add Bartosz Kurez, Łukasz Żygadło, Matey Kazyisky, and Radostin Stoychev. This seemed to be a far-fetched rumor, but then the dominoes started to fall. Kurek was announced as a new member of the club on June 24th. A few days later the they signed Łukasz Żygadło. Then on Friday, June 29th it was announced that Stoychev was joining the staff as the sports director.
“We want to learn from the best, and if we have such an assumption, then “Rado” is the perfect person to help us,” said club president, Jakub Markiewicz. “We are going to build a club with strong foundations that will function this way over the years and Stoychev is responsible for that. Together with Mieszko Gogol, they are currently rebuilding the first team and he is supporting us in creating healthy club structures.”
Rasostin Stoychev is one of the most decorated coaches in all of volleyball. He has accounted for more trophies than most clubs have ever won. Stoychev has won multiples championships at the domestic, European, and world levels of competition. His list of titles include the following:
