The FIVB World Tour event in Moscow will feature a tournament structure much like that of the previous stop in Rio. There will be pools of four teams, with the winners of the first match playing another match that evening, while the losers wait until the following morning to compete.
There are a number of top players competing in the Moscow event. The winners of the Rio event have traveled half-way around the world to try their hand at another FIVB World Tour event. Women’s victors from Rio, Agatha Bednarczuk/Eduarda ‘Duda’ Santos Lisboa of Brazil will first take on France’s Alexandra Jupiter/Ophelie Lusson. On the men’s side, Bruno Schmidt/Alison Cerutti will face Russia’s Maxim Sivolap and Igor Velichko.
Making a reappearance on the FIVB World Tour is April Ross after her and former partner Kerri Walsh Jennings split early in May. Ross has partnered with Lauren Fendrick for the remainder of the 2017 season. The two will take on Joy Stubbe/Jolien Sinnema in their first match of the tournament.
After skipping out on the Rio event to take part in, and win, the AVP Tour event in Austin, Texas is Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena. The American duo will take on Latvia’s Rihards Finsters/Edgars Tocs, who escaped the qualification round on Wednesday.
