Top seeded Cienega overcame a 1-2 set deficit to beat second seeded Horizon Honors in five sets, 3-2; 25-16, 20-25, 20-25, 25-21, 15-11. This marks the first ever state championship title for Cienega, and the eighth boys volleyball title for a Tucson school. Cienega came into the match with a 24 match winning streak, not loosing to a 5A opponent all season. Horizon Honors was riding a 24 match winning streak in which they did not drop a single set; Horizon also did not lose a single match to another 5A school all season.
Senior opposite Alex Muszynski led the way for Cienega with 17 kills while senior middle blocker Skyler Cavanaugh had 16 kills. Senior setter Mclain Mott had a double-double with 13 kills and 41 assists. Horizon was led by senior outside hitter Trevor Weary with 35 kills.
Cienega took the opening set 25-16 and was on its way to take the second set until Horizon overcame a five point deficit to take the second set 25-20, and then the third set 25-20. In the fourth set, Cienega’s senior middle blocker Skyler Cavanaugh had five kills in the last seven points of the set, earning Cienega the fourth set win, 25-21. Then, in the fifth set, Horizon took early leads at 7-4 and then again at 10-7. A kill from Cienega sparked a three point scoring run, tying the score at 10-10. More kills by Cienega pushed the lead further until they would eventually win the fifth and decisive set, 15-11.

The #4 seeded team of Boulder Creek proved to be too much for the #2 seeded team Chandler, winning the state title match 3-1; 25-20, 25-18, 22-25, 25-21. Boulder Creek has now won three of the last four state championship titles, with this win marking two in-a-row for the team.
Boulder Creek won the first two sets comfortable, 25-20 and 25-18. In the third set, Chandler was able to capitalize off of Boulder Creek’s errors to take the third set 25-22. The fourth set saw Chandler take a 3-1 lead early on and then another lead at 17-14. Boulder Creek scored five in-a-row to take a 19-17 lead, eventually taking the fourth and final set 25-21.
Boulder Creek was led by sophomore outside hitter Jackson Hickman with 17 kills, while senior outside hitter Patrick Ross contributed 13 kills. For Chandler, junior opposite Jonny Bowles led the team with 19 kills.
