21-year old Chinese opposite Gong Xiangyu, who has taken a leading offensive role for China as they continue to rest global superstar Zhu Ting, left China’s match against Turkey on Thursday in the 4th set with what appeared to be an injury.

Gong suffered an ankle injury late in the match in a collision with teammates and didn’t return as China beat Turkey 3-1.

In spite of missing the last-half of the last-set, Gong still led her team with 18 points in the match.

The Chinese federation has not yet commented on her status, nor has the Chinese media elaborated on her status. China and the rest of the teams set for the Final 6 will have 2 weeks off before the next stage of play begins on June 27th. China will host that tournament, so Gong will likely be evaluated by Chinese doctors upon the team’s return to home later this week.
