High School Coach Charged With Six Counts Of Sexual Contact Of A Minor

This week, a former Dexter High School volleyball player has gone to the police to accuse her former coach, Antonio Regalado, of sexual abuse, according to Kob.com. According to the reports, the 17-year-old student-player stated the coach, who is 36, inappropriately touched her while traveling on a school bus to a volleyball game back in 2016. Court documents say that the victim was “startled and jumped up” on contact, to which Regalado only answered with “that was great.”

The arrest warrant also states that Regalado allegedly harassed the victim through obscene text messages, and other instances of inappropriate sexual contacts throughout her many years as a player. Police says that upon initial investigations, additional Dexter High School volleyball players have come forth and claimed Regalado inappropriately touched them as well.

Probable cause has been found by a Chaves County judge, and Regalado is currently being held on no bond in the Chaves County Detention Center on six counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor, while a New Mexico state Police spokesperson stated that the investigation is still ongoing.

This year, Dexter High School, already under the command of a new coach, finished 9-0 in New Mexico’s 3A District 4 competition, while sporting a 16-7 overall record. On 11/10, The team fell to Santa Rosa High School on the semifinals of the Class 3A New Mexico State Championships.

Dexter is a small town with a population of only about 1200 inhabitants. Reports state that Regalado had been Dexter’s high school coach for the past few years. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case, but one of many accusations that have surrounded youth volleyball in the USA.
