Iran Wraps Asian Qualifiers at 4-0 with Sweep of Qatar

Pool A

Korea def. Kazakhstan 3-1 (25-18, 25-12, 28-30, 25-22)

Iran def. Qatar 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-19)

 

After sewing up its spot at World Championships on Sunday, Iran put a perfect cap on the Asian Qualifiers with its fourth straight sweep of the event in the tournament finale.

Earlier in the day, Korea earned its first victory, handing Kazakhstan its fourth straight loss.

 

Final standings:
1. Iran 4 wins, 12 pts
2. China 3 wins, 9 pts
3. Qatar 2 wins, 5 pts
4. Korea 1 win, 4 pts
5. Kazakhstan 0 wins, 0 pts

Korea 3, Kazakhstan 1

Lee Kangwon led Korea to the victory with 16 points, while Kirill Gurin managed 12 points to lead Kazakhstan.

 

Iran 3, Qatar 0

Despite using mostly substitutes in the lineup, the Iranians closed out the tournament with a sweep of Qatar. Reza Ghara led the way with 12 points, while Ali Shafiei followed with 10.

Iran and China punched the final two Asian Volleyball Conference tickets to the 2018 World Championships on Sunday. Japan and Australia earned the first two spots by placing top two in Pool B.
