By now, rumors that Cuban superstar Yoandy Leal will be joining fellow countryman Osmany Juantorena in Italy’s Lube Civitanova have spread like wildfire. The tandem would comfortably be one of the most powerful in the world. However, since reports started on the supposed trade, fans have been questioning what would happen to Team USA’s Taylor Sander, whose spot Leal would fill, if the move indeed concretizes.

A plausible answer surfaced this week, when Brazil’s most famous blogger, Bruno Voloch, and Italian website, Volleymagazine.it, stated that Cruzeiro is thinking of not extending the contract of its opposite hitter Evandro Guerra, a 2016 Olympic gold medalist, shifting giant RobertLandy Simon to his position, and bringing  Sander and Eder Carbonera from Italy to cover up their roster spots.

If the trade is indeed to happen, Cruzeiro would find itself in a tough spot. Leal is one of the best players in the world, while Sander has had his production drop drastically over the last season, having spent a lot of time injured, or in Civitanova’s bench in favor or Jiri Kovar. While Simon’s move to the opposite spot would certainly be an amazing experience, after all he is 6’10” and able to hit the ball at 12″, will it be enough to compensate for the lack of offensive firepower at the wings? Also, how would Sander react to not playing with Micah Christenson? These are all questions the team needs to ponder.

Big game tomorrow! Excited for the battle! @adidasvball #movember #sandervball
