After much speculation, Vôlei Nestlé/Osasco has finally announced Peruvian youth star Angela Leyva as the newest addition to its 2017/2018 roster, according to the team’s official Instagram page. Nicknamed “The Angel of Heights” (El Angel de las Alturas), the 20 year old opposite hitter is ready to have her first season abroad, after having spent her whole career in Peruvian soil with Universidad de San Martín. In her six years with the club, she played in six Peruvian National Championships, winning the tournament’s MVP awards in all of the six competitions.

Angela was first capped for an appearance with the Peruvian national squad five years ago, at only 15 years of age. Regarded by many as the great Peruvian volleyball hope, she has already made lots of strides in returning Peru to its former volleyball status, as the country was one of the premier female national volleyball teams in the 80’s, securing silver medals in both the Olympic Games and the World Championships in that time.

In the Peruvian national team, Angela is coached by Luizomar Moura, also Osasco’s coach, which definitely worked towards her signing with the Brazilian club, as Luizomar probably wants to develop his star player in a strong league like Brazil’s Superliga, instead of Peru’s lower tier leagues.

Her official media conference with the new club was streamed on Osasco’s official Facebook page and was watched by over fifty thousand fans.
