OSU's Jake Hanes Rides Big Win to VolleyMob Player of the Week Honors

Big performances in wins over Saint Francis (PA) and No. 8 Penn State put the spotlight on this week’s VolleyMob Player of the Week, Ohio State’s Jake Hanes. The redshirt freshman opposite averaged 5.83 kills and 1.00 digs per set, while hitting .452 in the sweeps, en route to MIVA Offense Player of the Week nods. The Orland Park, Illinois, native recorded a team-high 19 kills and five digs, while hitting .471 (19-3-34) against Saint Francis. He then wrapped up the week by notching a team-leading 16 kills, three blocks and two assists, while hitting .429 against PSU.

Averaged 3.38 kills, 1.88 digs, 1.13 blocks per set, while hitting .389 in four set wins over #9 Cal State Northridge and #15 UC Santa Barbara; tallied 12 kills, six digs, five blocks and an ace, while hitting .579 against CSUN; added 15 kills, nine digs, four blocks and two aces, while hitting .286 vs. UCSB

Christian Malias, George Mason – RS Sr., OH
Averaged 4.29 kills, 1.86 digs and 1.14 blocks per set, while hitting .357 vs. Pepperdine and Ball State; notched 12 kills, three digs and an ace in the loss to Pepperdine; rebounded with an 18-kill, 10-dig double-double and seven blocks, while hitting .556 (18-3-27) vs. BSU.

Rado Parapunov, Hawaii – So., Opp.
Averaged 4.13 kills and 1.38 digs per set, while hitting .333 in a split with #2 UCLA; tallied a team-best 15 kills and a career-high seven digs and three aces, while hitting .250 on Friday; added a team-leading 18 kills and four digs, while hitting .419 (18-5-31) in Sunday’s rematch.

Joel Schneidmiller, UC Irvine – Fr., OH
Averaged 3.54 kills and 0.85 blocks per set, while hitting .456 as UCI moved to 9-1 for its best start since 2007; started the week with a then career-high 12 kills in a four-set win over Concordia, while also added adding four digs, three blocks and hitting .391 (12-3-23); upped his level to 15 kills in Friday’s four-set win over #5 BYU, while also putting up seven blocks and hitting .565 (15-2-23); saved his best for a five-set win over BYU, notching a career-high 19 kills on a .424 clip (19-5-33)

Tanner Syftestad, UC San Diego – Sr., Opp.
Averaged 6.00 kills, 1.75 digs and 1.13 blocks per set, while hitting at a .473 clip against #11 Grand Canyon and Ottawa (AZ); planted 21 kills and added two digs, two blocks and two aces, while hitting .415 in a four-set loss to GCU (21-4-41); downed as season-high 27 kills and added 12 digs and an ace, while hitting .520 vs. Ottawa.
