Phillipine volleyball phenom Alyssa Valdez continues to influence the sport even when away from the court. A two-time UAAP champion and three-time MVP among her countless UAAO accolades, Valdez will be back to being a college rookie again, but this time as a game commentator in front of live television for ABS-CBN.
She commented on her preparations for her new role on Sports.inquirer.net:

“I’m going to be an analyst this coming semifinals on Tuesday. It’s going to be my first time so I’m really trying to get the hang of it by watching and asking help from other people. I’m trying to familiarize myself on how to better analyze everything that goes on during the matches, as my only experience on this is watching my game and my opponents’ games in order to get a playing advantage. I always try to listen to those who are covering the games on TV, because the reactions you get from commentators are very different from those of you as a player. I still need guidance when it comes to that, and to learn which parts of the game I need to focus on when working from the commentator’s booth.”

After graduation, Valdez signed a contract to play in Thailand, but is now back to The Philippines as Creamline Cool Smashers’s captain.
