Poland’s WCH title meant more money for volleyball in the country. The Polish government has announced a 15 million zloty (about 4 million USD) grant to the country’s volleyball federation to help further the development of the sport. It is worth remembering that volleyball is already the highest government funded team sport in Poland, having received a 26 million zloty (7 million USD) grand earlier in the year.

Poland’s prime minister, who met the team after the WCH title and said that he’d cherish it for the rest of his life, took to twitter to announce the move:

“We appreciate the success of our big team, the back-to-back World Champions, who have provided us with so much fun. That’s why we’ll spend $15 million on developing Polish volleyball – for our Gold heroes, but also for our youth, our juniors, and for the purchase of equipment. Once again: Thank you! 🇵🇱”

Poland is the most volleyball-loving country in the world. Although government funding is not enough to keep any sports modality at the top of the world’s charts, it sure goes a long way in helping federations get some solid ground under their feet and search for additional sponsorship. The results speak for themselves. Not only are the Poland’s men’s teams the current 2x World champs, their youth teams are performing greatly as well.
