Earlier in the week it was reported that Ryley Barnes suffered a serious ankle injury while training for the Canadian National Team. Reports coming out of Italy from Gian Luca Pasini stated that Cristian Savani will be making the move back to Lube Civitanova to help fill the void left by this injury. Recall that Savani won a CEV Challenge Cup in 2011 and the Italian Serie A1 title in 2012 with Lube.

It turns out these were just rumors. Verona, presumably after seeing the saga tied to Robertlandy Simon’s move to Lube from Sada Cruzeiro, felt compelled to have Savani issue a statement about his arrival at the club on August 20, 2018.

I am very happy to have landed in this moment of my career in Verona, a square of great importance and I feel like home, a few kilometers from my family. I have always hoped to come and play in Verona and so my family will be able to support me in person without problems, moreover my daughter will attend the nursery school in Verona,” said Savani.

He added, “I can not wait to start in this group that I think is of great quality. With Birarelli we felt just defined my membership and complimented me. I thank the fans for the great affection they have shown me these days and since three years ago, when before going to China I got ready with the Gialloblù. I arrive in a familiar environment and I’m really happy.”

Verona will open up their season against Vero Volley Monza on October 14, 2018.
