Gros Inlet, Saint Lucia hosted Second Round Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA) Pool D qualification for the 2018 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship on August 12th and 13th. The team that would win the four team pool between Anguilla (FIVB World Ranking 95) , (Dutch) Sint Maarten (137), (French) Saint Martin (137) and the hosts Saint Lucia (50) would advance to the NORCECA Continental Championship, which is also the Final Round of NORCECA qualifying for the 2018 World Championship in Italy and Bulgaria. The pool would play a round-robin and then a playoff round with matches for 3rd place and 1st place based on the results from the pool play.

On August 12th, Saint Lucia started the tournament with a 3-0 sweep over Saint Martin. Sint Maarten defeated Anguilla in straight sets in the second match of the day. Sint Maarten then faced its island neighbor Saint Martin. A win would put Sint Martin in the final, while a loss would force them to win on Sunday morning. Sint Maaten took the match 3-1 to advance to the final with one match to play. Saint Lucia was in the same boat as Sint Maarten as a win would also advance them to the final. Anguilla took the first set, but Saint Lucia replied and took the next 3 sets to win the match 3-1. Joseph Clercent of Saint Lucia finished with 31 points in the Anguilla match.

With Saturday’s results, Sunday’s matches were double headers with the same teams. Anguilla and Saint Lucia won the final pool play matches each 3-0. In the 3rd Place match, Saint Martin defeated Anguilla 3-2 for their first win of the pool to finish third. Saint Lucia did not want a repeat of the 3rd place match in the final. Saint Lucia never gave Sint Maarten a chance in the match, with a comfortable 3-0 win to advanced to the NORCECA Continental Championship. Joseph Clercent was named MVP of the Pool. In addition to Clercent, Tevin St. Jean (MB) of Saint Lucia, Jeloni Lawrence (MB) of Anguilla, Kevin Gumbs (L) of Anguilla, Ian Connor (S) of Anguilla, Reigmar Valies (OP) of Sint Maarten were named to the Best Team.
