Sweat/Ross Beat Kolocova/Kvapilova in 3 Set Battle

2017 FIVB BEACH VOLLEYBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – VIENNA

The American team of Summer Ross and Brooke Sweat pushed past the Czech Republic team of Kristyna Kolocova and Michala Kvapilova today to secure a spot in the quarterfinals. The USA stumbled in the first set, losing to the Czech Republic with a score of 17-21. The comeback began in the second set with Ross/Sweat prevailing in overtime, winning 22-20. In the final set, the two teams were close, but the Americans snagged a spot in the quarterfinals by closing it out 15-12.

Kolocova/Kvapilova targeted the shorter of the two Americans, Brooke Sweat with the majority of their serves. Sweat received 38 serves in comparison to Ross who only received 8. Despite Ross only receiving 8 serves, she was able to go on the offensive frequently, totaling 30 attack attempts. From the USA, the Czech Republic received relatively equal amounts of serves with 34 and 20 for Kolocova and Kvapilova respectively. Neither team was particularly strong with their defense at the net with Summer Ross topping the group with 4 blocks.

The USA team will face off against Germany’s Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst in the quarterfinals.
