After opening the World Championships against host Bulgaria on Sunday, Finland had a couple of days to regroup and bounced back with a sweep of No. 16 Cuba. Meanwhile, Bulgaria moved to moved to 2-1 and secured its place in the second round with a dominant blocking effort (12-0) in a sweep of Puerto Rico.
An overwhelming offensive effort gave Iran the advantage in a sweep of Puerto Rico, while Poland relied on its block in a four-set win over Cuba to kick off the second day of Pool D play.
Puerto Rico will debut in the competition against Iran on September 12. It will then round off Pool D play against Poland, Bulgaria, Finland, and Cuba.
Cuba swept Puerto Rico in a meeting of the top two teams while Guatemala got in the win column.
Puerto Rico took down Costa Rica while Cuba defeated Trinidad & Tobago to set up a clash atop the table between the two.
Puerto Rico and Trinidad & Tobago each earned 3-0 victories on day two of the Men NORCECA Challenge Cup.
