Texas A&M junior outside hitter Hollann Hans had six aces to obliterate the program’s 35-year-old all-time record for aces in a season with 64, and senior libero Amy Houser capped her career in record-setting fashion as the Aggies came from behind to defeat LSU in five sets.
Florida piled up a rally-scoring era record 23 blocks vs. Ole Miss, while Kentucky swept LSU to remain undefeated in league play. Missouri’s Alyssa Munlyn notched her 600th block in a four-set win over Auburn, while Tennessee outlasted Texas A&M in five sets.
Kentucky’s Madison Lilley was tabbed as SEC Setter and overall Player of the Week for week 8, while Texas A&M’s Hollann Hans and London Austin-Roark, Florida’s Rachael Kramer and LSU’s Raigen Cianciulli also were honored by the league.
9th-ranked Florida and 19th-ranked Kentucky stayed perfect in SEC action with 8-0 and 6-0 marks, respectively. LSU, Texas A&M and RV Missouri all chalked up conference wins on Sunday as well.
10th-ranked Florida registered 20 blocks, the 2nd-highest total recorded in the rally-scoring era, to halt RV Georgia’s upset bid 3-2 on Sunday afternoon. The Gators remain undefeated in SEC action, as Taelor Kellum and Mia Sokolowski notched career-high block totals.
While 10th-ranked Florida earned a sweep at LSU, Mississippi State earned the first SEC victory of the July Darty era with a 5-set comeback win over Auburn.
Florida and Kentucky were picked as favorites win the SEC, but Alabama’s surprise start has the Crimson Tide in the conversation. Missouri and Texas A&M opener league play with wins on Wednesday.
