2017 Taipei Summer Universiade (World University Games) – Women’s Tournament

Former Alabama and VolleyMob All-America third team and  AVCA All-American Honorable Mention Krystal Rivers gave her best, contributing with 25 points, but it wasn’t enough for Team USA to overcome Thailand in a 3-2 (25-23, 25-23, 28-26, 25-17, 15-10) loss that eliminated them from the tournament. Former Duke player Jordan Tucker chipped in 21 tallies.  Wipawee Shrithong’s and Watchareeya Nuanjan’s 17 points each for the winning side. Team USA gifted Thailand with 37 points from turnovers. USA will now play for the 9th-16th place.

Argentina beat Canada 3×1 (25-22, 25-27, 25-16, 25-17) behind Sofia Bulgarella’s 15 points. Kelsey Veltman had 12 points in the losing effort.

Ukraine beat Switzerland 3-1 (18-25, 27-25, 25-18, 25-23) behind Anastasia Chernukha’s 17 points. Laura Kuenzler had 23 for the losing side.

Japan beat Latvia 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-16) behind Misaki Yamauchi‘s and Ayaka Sugi’s 10 points each. Latvia’s team highs were only four points, from Ieva Tetere and Tereze Hrapane alike.

Hosts Taipei beat Colombia 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-14) behind Li-Yun Chang’s eight points. Lybis Marmolejo had seven points in the losing effort.

Russia beat Brazil’s Superliga filled roster 3-1 (21-25, 25-15, 25-21, 25-21) behind Angelina Lazarenko’s 18 points. Natiele Gonçalves had 16 in the losing effort.
