In the same game that saw Valentina Diouf suffer a serious eye injury, Team USA player Sarah Wilhite was carried off the court in a stretcher with an ankle injury, as her team, Busto Arsizio, beat Foppapedretti Bergamo 3-1 in the 4th round of the Italian Championship’s regular season. According to Italy’s LaGazzettadelloSport, Wilhite has undergone an X-ray exam, which showed no breaks, only a severe ankle sprain. The Team has not commented on a timetable for her return.

The 22 year old 6’2″ outside hitter has just recently graduated from The University of Minnesota, where she was named 2016’s Volleymob National player of the year, 2016 AVCA Division I National Player of the Year, espnW National Player of the Year. Most recently, she was in Team USA’s roster for the 2017 FIVB Grand Prix and 2017 Grand Champions Cup.

Busto Arsizio currently occupies the 4th place in Seria A1, with 3 wins and only 1 loss.  Team USA player Michelle Bartsch, also an outside hitter, will have to work overtime until Wilhite recovers.
