The third round of Men’s Superliga play saw no surprises. All favorites team won their games convincingly. Cruzeiro, Sesi, Campinas, and Taubaté all hit above 65% in their respective victories, giving their opponents no chance for success. Below, you’ll find recaps from all of the weekend’s games:
- Sesi/SP defeated Lebes/Canoas 3-0 (15/25 20/25 17/25) behind Renato Santo’s 11 points. Aboubacar Neto had 11 points in the losing effort. Sesi scored 46 kills on 71 tries, for an absurd 65% excellency rate.
- Vôlei Renata/Campinas beat JF Vôlei 3-0 (14/25 25/27 17/25) behind Leandro Vissoto‘s 12 points. Franco Drago had nine points in the losing effort. JF attacked at a mere 32% clip, while Campinas posted an incredible 66% excellency rate.
- Sada Cruzeiro beat Copel Telecom/Maringá 3-1 (18/25 25/15 19/25 17/25) behind Yoandy Leal’s 16 points. Wennder Lopes had 11 points in the losing effort. Cruzeiro posted 58% and 66% excellency rates for receiving and attacking, respectively.
- EMS Funvic/Taubaté beat Ponta Grossa/Caramuru 3-1 (16/25 25/23 20/25 14/25). Ricardo Lucarelli led the way for the winning team with 18 points (14 for 19 on attacks), while Leonardo Pinheiro had 21 points in the losing effort. Taubaté hit 66% for the game.
- Minas Tênis Clube beat Montes Claros Vôlei 3-1 (20/25 27/25 25/22 26/24) behind Flávio Gualberto 20 points (14 for 21 on attacks). Fabrício Dias (Lorena) had 12 points in the losing effort.
- Sesc/RJ beat Corinthians/Guarulhos 3-1 (25/16 21/25 25/21 25/23) behind João Ferreira’s 18 points. Rodrigo Nascimento had 17 points in the losing effort. Corinthians was out-blocked 13 to 8 in the game.
Team of the Week – Cruzeiro
Sada Cruzeiro remains unbeaten after round 3 of play. This week, the team worked as a well-oiled machine, as setter Nicolas Uriarte commanded an offense that scored on 47 of its 71 tries (66% excellency rate). Cruzeiro is still dominant as ever, and it doesn’t look like it’ll stop being the runaway title favorite anytime soon.
Player of the Week – Flávio Gualberto
Flávio always let’s his presence be felt in the defensive part of the game, as he currently leads Superliga in total blocks and blocks pert set (0.92 stuffs per set), so his his 5 stuffs on Saturday’s game was nothing new. However, in his team’s match against state rivals Montes Claros, he complimented his superb defensive play with 20 points in 14 of 21 attacks. His amazing performance on both sides of the game makes him the clear choice for player of the week.
