UC Irvine, Lewis Climb Two Spots in AVCA Poll, Fort Wayne Joins Ranks

UC Irvine jumped two spots and into the top five at No. 4 in this week’s AVCA Top 15 poll after beating then No. 5 BYU twice last weekend and also topping No. 17 Concordia, giving the team its best start since 2007 at 9-1. With the losses, the Cougars dropped one spot to No. 6.

Lewis also climbed two places to No. 8 with wins over then No. 9 Cal State Northridge and UC Santa Barbara.

CSUN dropped to No. 11 with the road loss to the Flyers as well as a setback against No. 7 Loyola.

One newcomer joined the Top 15: No. 15 Fort Wayne. The Mastodons topped Lourdes via sweep in its lone match of the week, bumping Ball State out of the rankings. The Cardinals fell to No. 12 Pepperdine and George Mason in four sets at the Uvaldo Acosta Invitational.

Reigning No. 1 Long Beach State will put its perfect 9-0 mark on the line at home on Friday, when it welcomes Concordia-Irvine to Walter Pyramid.
