Alix Klineman/April Ross said focusing on their game was key in Friday’s straight set win over Brazil’s Agatha Bednarczuk and Eduarda “Duda” Santos Lisboa, which earned the pair an automatic pass to the second knockout round on Saturday.
The duo, which began the tournament in the country quota match has won five straight now to grab their spot in Saturday’s knockout.
The duo will be joined in the round by fellow Americans Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes, who advanced through the first elimination round.
“We survived,” the duo explained of their match against Russia’s Ksenia Dabizha and Yulia Abalakina, which ended 15-21, 21-17, 15-11.
Claes credited Hughes for pulling her through the match. The pair also discussed the keys to their win, the Russian’s game and adjusting to the cold weather in Hague.
The duos are the only U.S. women remaining after Brooke Sweat/Summer Ross lost in the elimination round and Lauren Fendrick/Karissa Cook fell in pool play.
