Emotions are still running high in Poland after the team repeated as World Champions. Regardless, Vital Heynen, who has been at the helm of the team for only 5 months, made it a point to remind everyone that this is only the beginning for the squad, and that he has very lofty goals in mind:
“Nothing will change for me from now on. We are only at the beginning, as I came to Poland to win an Olympic Games medal, and that is my goal. The success at the WCH shows what our potential really is. Next year will be even more difficult, because everyone will look at us as the world champions We are world champions because we have a great team.”
Team captain Michal Kubiak echoed the coach’s sentiments:
“I still have the Olympic Games in my head. This is the ultimate goal for which I am able to sacrifice a lot. If medals appear on the way, as now in the world championship, it’s always a positive thing. We were not the favorites of this tournament, but we won. Our team has perspective. I always said it, but people did not believe me, Our secret? Unity. And the common goal.”
Needless to say, that is exactly what fans will now expect for the team. Former NT coach Waldemar Wspaniały has already set the tone of what kind of pressure Heynen and the team will be facing:
“The most important thing now are the Olympic Games, because we are waiting for a medal in this event since our gold 1976. It is time to finally win a medal in it again. I would like Poland to meet Brazil in the final of the Olympic tournament in two years and for us to win against them again.”
We improved day by day.We played amazing in the last weekend. We have the best players of the world because they are not only great individuals, but they also knew how to play together. It is still hard to believe, but I am the coach of the best team of the world. Thank you, guys!!! pic.twitter.com/9bjTkXBSsx
