This week’s VolleyMob Beach Pair of the Week went a perfect 6-0 in leading their Florida State squad to its third straight CCSA Tournament crown. Katie Horton and Hailey Luke were named as CCSA Pair of the Tournament for their efforts on Court 2, winning all six of their matches in straight sets, while facing five ranked teams.
The pair downed three teams ranked in CollegeBeachVB.com’s Top 35 pairs on Court 2, while boosting its season record to 31-3 including a perfect 17-0 mark on Court 2. They have now won their last 20 matches.
Horton, a redshirt senior from Westland, Michigan, was a 2017 CCSA all-tournament team selection alongside Francesca Goncalvez after the pair went 15-4. Horton posted a 24-10 record on the year, including 17 wins over ranked foes as a redshirt junior. That came after a 2016 season which saw her play in just 12 matches. Horton also was a star on the indoor courts for the Seminoles, becoming the first FSU player to reach 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career back in 2016.
Luke, a redshirt senior from Altamonte Springs, Florida, is a three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll selection and boasted a 54-20 overall record coming into 2018. She went 22-8 in 2017, including 18-7 at the No. 5 position, while besting 15 ranked foes. In 2016, Luke went 17-7 at the No. 4 and 5 positions, beofre missing the final two matches of the NCAA Championship due to injury.
Florida State (30-6) went a perfect 10-0 against CCSA foes during the regular season and earned the No. 1 seed in the league tournament. The Seminoles must now wait until the NCAA Selection Show on April 29 to learn their postseason fate.
