MATCH ESSENTIALS

French Ligue A historically features competitive sides from the top of its table to the bottom–and this season has been no exception. As proof, look no further than Paris Volley, which has already won early-season battles against perennial powers, Chaumont VB 52 and Tours VB, only to drop a five-set thriller last weekend to Spacer’s Toulouse VB, giving that side its first win of the season.

VolleyMob recently did an extensive interview with former UCLA All-American and current Paris Volley middle Mitch Stahl (#7). As part of that interview, which will be featured on this site early next week, he had this to share about Saturday’s match: “Two things to watch: Our outside hitter, Gergye [Roland Gergye #8], has one of the top serves in the league. Also, the opposing outside hitter is ambidextrous [Baptiste Geiler #4] and will hit with both hands. It’s incredible to watch on film and I’m looking forward to playing against him.”

In addition to Geiler, Poitiers will look to Mohamed Al Hachdadi (#11) for significant point production. The Moroccan opposite currently has a team-high 75 points going into today’s match, with Geiler ranked second with 66 points.

On other side of the net, Stahl is third on his side in point production with 36 points, behind opposite Wouter Ter Maat (#2) who has recorded 80 points, and Gergye, who has scored 69 points.
