With the first two days of play completed, Team USA and Russia will face off against each other in Nagoya, where the remainder of the competition will be held.
This will be the fourth time the two teams will meet at the World Grand Champions Cup with the Americans holding a 2-1 lead. The team’s most recent match against each other came at the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix, where the Americans prevailed in five.
Team USA bounced back from a day one loss to China to take down Korea on day two. The Americans were the runners-up in the 2013 edition of the event after dropping their first match to the eventual champions, Brazil. Against Korea, five players for Team USA posted double-digit points – Jordan Larson (13), Rachael Adams (12), Lauren Gibbemeyer (12), Annie Drews (11) and Kim Him (11).
Russia took down the hosts, Japan, on day two after a four-set loss to Brazil on day one. Two Russian players rank in the top-five in scoring – Nataliya Goncharova (38) and Tatiana Kosheleva (35).
