N.C. State senior middle blocker Kaitlyn Kearney is just six kills away from joining the 1,000 kill club. The milestone kill will not only make the senior middle blocker the 108th active member of the group in Division I, but it also puts her in another elite group.
Kearney and the Wolfpack face Miami (Fla.) at 7 p.m. ET tonight (Friday, Oct. 27).
Kearney will become the fourth player nationally to achieve the 1,000 kill/500 block combo. North Dakota’s Faith Dooley, Florida’s Rhamat Alhassan and Penn State’s Haleigh Washington are the other members. Kearney already made school history, snapping the Wolfpack’s career blocks record with her 501st block, which came Oct. 19 vs. North Carolina.

Kearney also will make N.C. State part of another elite pairing, joining Penn State as the lone schools nationally to boast three current members of the 1,000 kill club, joining Julia Brown (1,176; Sept. 10) and Bree Bailey (1,119; Sept. 15).
The Nittany Lions completed their trio of 1,000 kill efforts when Washington registered her milestone putaway on Oct. 21. Along with Washington, senior outside hitters Ali Frantti (1,160; Aug. 26) and Simone Lee (1,074; Oct. 6) have notched 1,000 putdowns.
