Germans Anna Behlen/Sarah Schneider made quite a splash in their FIVB World Tour debut, taking home the gold medal at the two-star Anchor International Beach Volleyball Carnival after a rallying for a three-set win in the championship match on Sunday.

Barbara/Fernanda, Brouwer/Meeuwsen Take Huntington Beach Gold

History was made on the men’s side of the Huntington Beach Four-Star as seventh-seeded Dutch duo Alexander Brouwer/Robert Meeuwsen of the Netherlands became the first European team in nearly 22 years to claim an FIVB event title on American soil. The last was Norway’s Jan Kvalhelm/Bjorn Masseide at the 196 U.S. Open in Hermosa Beach, California.

WATCH: UCLA Press Conference After NCAA Finals Loss to LBSU

UCLA coach John Speraw shared his disappointment in the loss, but also a send of pride and firm belief in his team throughout the match. “Obviously, Long Beach State is a very good volleyball team and I’ve said that a bunch of times here. They’re a deserved champion. I really thought we had a shot to beat them today, even before I stepped on the court and when we were down in the first set, I believed, but it wasn’t meant to be.”

WATCH LIVE: NCAA Beach Championships Day 3

With one half of the national title match bracket decided with No. 4 Florida State topping No. 3 Hawaii 3-2 Saturday to move on, the other half will have to wait until Sunday morning. The Sandbows will meet No. 1 seed UCLA in an elimination match at 11:30 a.m. ET with the winner earning the right to try to knock off the Seminoles and the loser going home.

Americans Miss Out On Huntington Beach Semis, Two Finish Fifth

Despite beginning the main draw with 41 combined men’s and women’s teams in action, the American pairs were blocked out of the semifinals with one men’s team (John Hyden/Theo Brunner) and one women’s team (Summer Ross/Sara Hughes) finishing in fifth place.
