AVP Hawaii Invitational

  • Waikiki, Hawaii
  • Aug. 15-16, 2018

The AVP Hawaii Invitational, the final stop on the 2018 tour, is just days away and the field has been set. Eight teams per gender with vie for the title in the double-elimination two-day affair.

Four international teams, the top two AVP teams of the season through qualification and two AVP teams by invitation make up the field.

The two qualifying AVP teams per gender were selected based on their best finishes in two of the three AVP Gold Series Events (New York, Manhattan Beach and Chicago).

  • Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena
  • Taylor Crabb/Jake Gibb
  • Alix Klineman/April Ross
  • Kelly Claes/Brittany Hochevar

Rounding out the men’s field are:

  • Jeremy Casebeer/Reid Priddy (AVP wildcard)
  • Tri Bourne/Trevor Crabb (AVP wildcard)
  • Alexander Brouwer/Robert Meeuwsen (Netherlands)
  • Pablo Herrera/Adrian Gavira (Spain)
  • Anders Mol/Christian Sorum (Norway)
  • Saymon Barbosa Santos/Gustavo ‘Guto’ Carvalhaes (Brazil)

While Brouwer/Meeuwsen are listed as the official entry, it is likely that Brouwer will play with Russian Oleg Stoyanovskiy as the pair played two King of the Court events together last weekend, while Meeuwsen is recovering from an injury.

Bourne/Crabb played in just two tournaments in 2018 as Bourne made his return from an 18-month layoff due to an autoimmune disorder at the Manhattan Beach Open (Aug. 16). The pair finished fifth at AVP Chicago on Sept. 2.

Anders/Mol are the defending FIVB World Tour Finals champions and Mol was named as the FIVB World Tour’s most outstanding men’s player.

The remainder of the women’s field includes:

  • Summer Ross/Sara Hughes (AVP wildcard)
  • Sarah Sponcil/Terese Cannon (AVP wildcard)
  • Sarah Pavan/Melissa Humana-Paredes (Canada)
  • Agatha Bednarczuk/Eduarda ‘Duda’ Santos Lisboa (Brazil)
  • Taliqua Clancy/Mariafe Artacho del Solar (Australia)
  • Azusa Futami/Akiko Hasegawa (Japan)

Sponcil/Cannon made their first AVP appearance as a pair at AVP Chicago, beginning in the qualifiers and making their way to the semifinals before finishing third.

Agatha/Duda won the women’s World Tour Finals title and Duda was tabbed as the top women’s player on the tour.

Ahead of the AVP Hawaii Invitational, the King of the Court Crown Series will play its third stop on the beach on Sept. 14 with 15 men’s and 15 women’s teams participating.
